How’s your self care?

You may feel like staying in your jim jam’s and not leaving the house during new moon in Cancer, regardless of your personal astrology. Why? Cancer is the homebody of the zodiac who likes to protect their sensitivities by hiding out in the safety and comfort of their inner sanctum. So kids and pets may be extra clingy and resist separation. This is a time for holding space for ourselves and each other and honouring our sensitivities with love and safety…welcoming the expression of vulnerability instead of shaming or mocking it. This is a time to focus our attention on the home front. So you may become acutely aware of any issues that need to be addressed with those you co-habit with, neighbours or issues relating to your home. This is also a lovely time to nest…to invest some love in your home so it feels extra inviting as a place to nourish your needs and receive your inner circle, people who feel like home to your soul. This is also a time for enjoying creature comforts like baking pies and snuggling on the couch, reminiscing about shared memories through photo albums and laughing at how much you’ve all grown from your life experiences! Since the new moon can evoke the shadow, you may find yourself needing to assert your autonomy if feeling smothered or if those closest to you are being emotionally abusive by withholding love and affection as a punishment instead of directing sharing their feelings openly. Consider checking in on your inner child by doing one of the following:

    • Closing your eyes and visualising yourself as a young child and having an internal dialogue
    • Gazing into the eyes of your younger self via a childhood photo to have a telepathic conversation
    • Drawing / writing with your left hand as a way of inviting your inner child to communicate its feelings and needs to you, the inner parent

Those of you who are parents or caretakers of others, (such as elderly parents, special needs family members, clients or animals) ensure you do an appraisal on your level of self-care. A tell-tale sign of exhaustion / compassion fatigue is feeling resentment towards those we nurture. This is often accompanied by audible sighs. Alternatively, you may feel angry, like going on strike if you don’t feel appreciated for your efforts. Cancer new moon flags where more support is needed. So, speak up to enlist others to step up their level of contribution if the workload hasn’t been shared evenly. If you do have a meltdown, it’s probably just what you needed, reminding both yourself and those around you that sometimes it’s the one who holds everyone else who also needs to be held. Book a massage, have a bath, order take-out, enlist a cleaning service or ask someone to mind your kids. It’s time, care-givers to pull in favors from those you have supported!
